Yesterday I delivered these postcards to our many supporters who were kind enough to display our signs. The cards, by local artist Amy Bartell of A.E. Originals, feature one of my favorite quotes. I know I missed a few homes, so if you would like me to drop one off, message us -- or, I will leave some in the antique school desk on our front porch (207 Birch St.) for you to pick up. Representing us

To the editor:

Again and again, I hear from my neighbors that their major concern in the Village of Liverpool is the traffic and poor road maintenance. Yet, the county executive has made it clear that he wants to limit traffic on Onondaga Lake Parkway to create a bike path around the lake. This would increase traffic problems in the village.

It is crucial that in this year’s election village residents elect a mayor who will represent us on this issue as well as others. I was very concerned when I read in Chris Fadden’s campaign piece that she is employed as a personnel director for Onondaga County government. This is a management/confidential position for which she did not take a civil service exam and which does not offer her civil service protection. Essentially, she serves “at the pleasure” of the county executive.

The Onondaga County executive has already demonstrated his willingness to make deals with elected officials when he provided $4.5 million to County Legislator Charles Garland’s district in return for his vote on the aquarium.

The village does not need a mayor who has such an obvious conflict of interest. How hard could Chris Fadden fight her boss on behalf of her village constituents on the Parkway traffic issue – or any other conflict of interest? I want the Village of Liverpool to retain its sense of community and this important election will make a difference in whether we do or not. The current board gave us Amazon and I don’t want any more of the same. I want the energy and fresh ideas of Stacy Finney as mayor and Melissa Cassidy and Rachel Ciotti as trustees. Please join me in voting for them on Tuesday, June 20.

In addition to working and raising 3 children, and volunteering for the Junior League of Syracuse, she also finds time to help with Liverpool Elementary PFO and Liverpool Little League. Rachel embodies the term “community spirit” every year, throwing a Halloween block party on Birch St. for the neighborhood. She will be a tremendous asset on the Village Board of Trustees. After spending a few years living in some of our country’s greatest cities, she and her husband, Scott, decided to return to CNY, specifically the Village of Liverpool, to raise a family. As fate would have it, she and her husband were able to purchase the home on Fourth Street that her grandfather built for her grandmother nearly eighty years ago. Melissa has been on the Zoning Board for the Village for nearly 10 years and walks her own dog — as well as those she volunteers with at the CNY Humane Society — through the village every day, stopping to talk to neighbors and village residents on every street. She and Scott have two children who have grown up attending the Village schools. Melissa has a Master Degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University's Maxwell School and has worked in the non-profit/higher education field for twenty years. She and her husband, Ray, a technology teacher at Liverpool Middle School, have restored several homes in the area, including their own and another on Birch Street. Her son and daughter are proud graduates of the Liverpool schools, where Stacy volunteered in various capacities. Stacy is a member of the Zoning Board and has a passion for continuing and expanding the revitalization of the business district. Her hope is that with a more vibrant business district we can better fund our police department, DPW, and other vital parts of our Village that we all known and love.
